Online Shopping Cart Company Follows Payment Application Best Practices
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) November 30, 2007 -- AspDotNetStorefront, a major provider of asp.net shopping cart software, announced recently that they are already compliant with Visa's new Payment Application Best Practice (PABP) guidelines.
Beginning in January of 2008, Visa will begin implementing a series of mandates to eliminate the use of non-secure payment applications from the Visa payment system. This mandate will include certifying any online e-commerce storefronts and online shopping carts that meet the strict protocol of their PABP standards in order to let consumers know when they are using an online shopping cart system that uses the highest standards to protect consumers' payment information.
Visa plans to put the PABP mandates in place over a three-year period, focusing on prohibiting merchants and agents from using payment applications that retain prohibited data elements. They will also begin requiring that all payment related software applications adhere to Visa's Payment Application Best Practices.
There are currently tens of thousands of consumer websites that are using open source or other non-compliant software for credit card transactions. These shopping cart applications may not meet Visa's PAPB minimum standards and could compromise the integrity of users' payment information. When Visa begins phasing in the new requirements, many of the open-source sites could go dark due to Visa's potential to pull the plug on their ability to process unprotected Visa transactions.
